Genetic genealogy community aid revision of the mtDNA tree

A major revision of the mtDNA haplotree has been proposed in an important new paper published in the American Journal of Human Genetics.

The paper proposes changing from the revised Cambridge Reference Sequence (CRS) to what it calls the Reconstructed Sapiens Reference Sequence (CSRS) which will have implications for haplogroup assignment.

Many of the sequences that were used in this paper to refine the mtDNA tree were submitted by customers of Family Tree DNA who had undertaken the mtDNA Full Sequence test and agreed to have their results used in the study.

Debbie Kennet has an informative post on the paper at Cruwys news.

The paper can be accessed here.

A website called mtDNA Community has been made available in conjunction with the release of the paper.
